| Cockshutt Tractors |
| My love for Cockshutt Tractors started about 30 years ago. I had worked for neighborhood Farmers since I was 12 but after graduating High School I decided I would like to try farming part-time on my own. My Grandmother had 40 acres and she was going to let me farm it. I needed a tractor and wanted it to be different from all the John Deere’s and International's in the area. Blue is my favorite color but Ford’s have a very high resale value. I worked at the Farm Bureau Co-op Tire Shop at the time and was talking to Verl Beach one day. He had just retired from farming and told me he had a Cockshutt 560 he would sell me. Seems his son took over the farm but the Cockshutt wasn’t good enough for him so he bought a John Deere. I went by and looked at the tractor. It was in the tool shed and had dust all over it but seemed to be in great shape. He had put the battery charger on it before I got there and it fired right up and ran like a top. We agreed on a price and I drove it home. Old “Cocky” has been my main tractor ever since. Plowing, disking, planting you name it. I don’t have to ask twice cause Old “Cocky” is always ready to go! Over the years I have added to my Cockshutt collection, which now includes a 540, 550G, 550D, 560 and a 570D all running and awaiting their turn for restoration. I’d like to have a 570G and maybe a 570 Super someday. Guess I have plenty of retirement work lined up! Joe Hunter |
